Alogs.Space is down (again)
TL;DR Hosting service tried to upgrade the node we run on, drives fucked up, they are rebuilding the server. Only 1.5 days of posts will be lost, but recovery will take some time (probably the weekend).
What happened?
Alogs.Space's hosting service Incognet performed a scheduled RAM upgrade to one of their server hosts (the one we were hosted on). After the upgrade it was discovered that one of the NVMe drives in their RAID-1 array has died, and the other one failed to initialize. They tried to restore data from the one that was still working, but this has failed.
What's the status?
They are waiting for the datacenter to rebuild the server so that our VPS can be provided again.
Is there data loss?
Thankfully, we're still fine: We have a full database and media backup from 2025-06-09. This means that only the last ~1.5 days of posts will be lost. However, getting back up will still take some time as I will have to rebuild the server (full disk encryption, MongoDB, our storage setup etc.)
Closing thoughts
For some fucking reason all of these data loss issues keep finding us. Unfortunately I cannot immediately set up on another host because we run with very limited funds and services that accept crypto and are affordable are pretty rare. We'll wait and see what happens. Please wait warmly. -r
