Star Wars IX WATCH-ALONG THREAD 12/20/2019 (Fri) 02:17:00 No.913

The more I think about the ending of 9, the more I get the feeling of how satanic it all is. The message of "but she overcame the sins of her grandfather's name and bloodline, just like Luke redeemed Vader and restored the Skywalker name, but even better because Force is Female!" can not ease the alarming gut feeling that the Skywalker line was murdered and everything about them was usurped by something very evil.
>>1231 >That said, I liked Luke's conclusion in the story A conclusion which goes against everything about the character all for some cheap hack attempt at "subverting expectations".
>>1231 > I liked Luke's conclusion in the story I'm sure you liked the conclusion of the character in the story who literally symbolizes hope and optimism in A New HOPE being depicted as a pessimistic coward who, after training with Yoda himself, somehow ended up failing to be a Jedi master - so much so that his sister's son ended up becoming a fucking Sith - and then went into exile where he drank blue milk and, after all the trouble of leaving his dead-end farmboy life and finally discovering the mystical power of the force in Return of the JEDI, did a 180 and outright said it's all bullshit and that the Jedi should end, shortly after crying over Yoda burning down all remaining records of Jedi history and culture that he believed, and then finally dying alone for no reason after pulling an astral projection.
>>1239 You are wasting your time, I'm pretty sure the poster is the "rian poster", his job is simply to push the idea that TLJ is somehow not a pile shit for low IQ consumers.
>>1239 >I'm sure you liked the conclusion of the character in the story who literally symbolizes hope and optimism in A New HOPE being depicted as a pessimistic coward who, after training with Yoda himself, somehow ended up failing to be a Jedi master - so much so that his sister's son ended up becoming a fucking Sith The way Episode VII set up Kylo Ren as this second Vader was a massive mistake. The difference between Ben and Anakin is that Anakin had a reason to turn to the Sith. >and then went into exile where he drank blue milk and, after all the trouble of leaving his dead-end farmboy life and finally discovering the mystical power of the force in Return of the JEDI, did a 180 and outright said it's all bullshit and that the Jedi should end I'm not so sure of that. I think he wanted to find a reason for it to end it, but he couldn't fully convince himself that it had all been for naught as he would have otherwise destroyed everything. As to why he was so disheartened, it was because he felt fear and failed just like Yoda, Obi-wan, Anakin, and the Jedi Council had, despite millenniums of teaching and wisdom and the Chosen One fulfilling his prophecy. >Yoda burning down all remaining records of Jedi history and culture that he believed That didn't happen. Rey took the books. >and then finally dying alone for no reason after pulling an astral projection. He had a reason. To ensure the Jedi continue and to confront what he feared most. >>1244 I like a portion of the film. The rest of it is garbage. Christ, you fags act like I'm shilling for Disney when I've said multiple times that VIII is not good and have listed the other two films as the worst of the nine. It might be that you underestimate my disdain for the prequels, making you think I hold VIII in high regard.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neQXppMMIOI This movie is so bad that Godwinson came back to life to shit on Disney Wars.
>>1248 >10 minutes Sorry anon, I only watch reviews that are hours long.
>>1247 yet you still for the worst disney fan fic garbage go shill elsewhere perhaps your efforts might get a few dummies to buy the clearanced merch at least. >>1249 >Watches reviews that are hours long I like the reviews that are at least 11 hours long, listening to 1 right now I'm a little over the 4 hour mark.
>>1250 >yet you still for the worst disney fan fic garbage go shill elsewhere perhaps your efforts might get a few dummies to buy the clearanced merch at least. Yes, because the prequels are unwatchable. Stop acting like a silly nigger.
>>1248 Who's this eceleb and why should I care about his opinion over the other ecelebs?
>>1254 Godwinson is the anti e-celeb and literal British aristocracy. Advocates for the complete demonetization of social media and makes some great minidocumentaries on failed people (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfhPXH3HEUA ). Problem is, he surfaces, makes kino for 3 months, then deletes all his channels/other social media with no means of following him. He was also instrumental in the creation of esoteric Jahanism, if you've ever encountered that meme.
>>1255 Sounds like an alright dude then.
>>1255 Man I'm a neet right now, I hope my life gets fixed or I die before that starts happening to me.
>>1262 Do you have a gentic defect preventing your body from producing testosterone?
Pro Tip: the C3PO sacrifice was a jewish dogwhistle against Jesus. They always mock the idea of abnegation, hence pushing it onto undesirables.
>>921 Why are there such big chunks of the Death Star left? Wasn't that shit mostly vaporized? Shouldn't the pieces be way smaller? It looks like half the death star came out unharmed.
>>924 Why the fuck are they using horses?
>>1248 I honestly thought he was dead.
>>1165 Hasn't Disney's new stuff given him like 20 medals already? How many more is he gonna get?
>>1263 No, but I am gay and want to take it up the butt.
>>1283 Maybe JewJew was trying to appeal to furries but disney figured having a bunch of AIDS patients getting deep dicked by space horses was being a little too progressive at the moment.
>>1011 There's also marketing costs, which is probably another 300-600 mil.
>>1316 >marketing costs, which is probably another 300-600 mil. Does that include the paid shills?
>>1011 >>1316 >>1318 What's the ballpark total budget for a movie these days, the cost of production + the cost of marketing which can be half up to equal the total cost of marketing? And that is not including re-shoots, so roughly guessing here. 600mil(indluding reshoots) + say 300mil for marketing which clearly did not pay enough of the access media or not enough or no longer working, 900mil total? That's fucking insane if that figure is even half accurate. The chinese box office numbers are not going to save their asses, we'll see by the 2nd weekend tally but the first opening weekend is sub par for their expectation, they fucking downgraded their projection in 2 days iirc, the merch is doing worse ever since TLJ. Are they going to hope that the DVD/Bluray and streaming will bring them back from the dumpster fire?
>>1319 You're extremely off there. TLJ cost ~$300mil to make. The reshoots only cost ~$20 to $30mil, and marketing is budgeted by the studio at the start of the year. TLJ didn't "cost" more in marketing, it just has used a larger piece of the marketing pie for that year. It still is an opportunity cost for them to use that money on the film, but they didn't really lose anything doing so. I would say the total cost of TLJ with production + marketing is in the ~$600mil range, which is still crazy high, and they haven't recouped their losses as of me writing this, but it's not 900 million dollars. I'd still categorize this launch as a failure though. https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Star-Wars-The-Rise-of-Skywalker-(2019)#tab=summary
>>1320 whoops, I mean TRoS, not TLJ
>>1248 I like Godwinson but I wish he wasn't a coward who deletes everything.
>>1320 >>1322 Ah ok, thanks for the much more accurate numbers. Sheeeit. from that link. >Theater counts: 4,406 opening theaters/4,406 max. theaters, 1.0 weeks average run per theater I went on the first opening week friday because family reasons, but when I saw the listing online there was plenty of tickets available, and the showing I went to was half full. Granted it was a matinee show but still. >most school was out on holiday by then >supposed to be the conclusion of the disney trilogy >I did not see any line ups to see the showing, definitely no one dressing up as their favorite characters from the nu disney series >even my family member said the movie was "fucking bullshit" >a quick scan looking at youtube reviewers shows most have mixed reactions to very negative ones. Disney won't be bankrupt anytime soon sadly, but yes. TROS is looking like a flop for them.
>>1329 >I went on the first opening week friday because family reasons, I was under family pressure to go see this, but I steadfastly refused, even while they wondered wtf was wrong with me. it may be just one ticket sale, but I can honestly say I've done my part.
>>1332 >it may be just one ticket sale, but I can honestly say I've done my part. You done good. My ticket got comped because of a technical difficulties, but I still felt ripped off. Here is what else I saw. >the few "hardcore" fans I saw was the type that would eat up anything slapped with a starwars label. Identical to people who would see anything as long as it's new and has flashing lights. >there was a smattering of weak ass applause at the end, nowhere near the level of the re-release of the OT, or even ROTS. >overheard one guy asking another what they thought, guy said he loved it, and will be back for a second viewing. The guy who first asked him asked about some mixed reviews online, the guy stammered a bit," uh sure there was some uh uneven moments but uh, yeah it was great overall, uh still". It was like hearing someone try to force down a shitty meal. >a group of younger people, the type that disney would want for their new generation of audience, was barely lukewarm about it and treated it as disposable fast food they just consumed.
Here is a link to the Star Wars IX visual dictionary. Its Pablo Hidalgo desperately trying to fix all the plot holes in this movie. https://mega.nz/#!MHg0QSaI!Z684zZUK_KIK61M62mf1RKz7DjkVF5qoSynovNT1nZw
>>1345 >desperately trying to fix all the plot holes in this movie. All the king's space horses and all the king's wahmenz can not fix it.
>>1346 Tell me about it. In fact the book seems to create more problems and confusion with this film. It also tries to add a bunch of stuff from old canon that no longer works with Disney's canon. It just makes Disney's Star Wars even more confusing.
>>1353 > It also tries to add a bunch of stuff from old canon that no longer works with Disney's canon. It just makes Disney's Star Wars even more confusing. What in the fuck, why are they still stuck on "adding more will fix it!" when that is at least half the problem. While the other is nihilistic ideologue driven "muh post modernism deconstruction" bullshit.
>>1345 >The Rise of Skywalker concludes the storyline that leapt onto screens in The Force Awakens >such memorable characters as Rey, FInn, and Poe Dameron I laughed. Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Also, that time Leia beat Luke in a lightsaber duel? She was pregnant at the time. She started training shortly after the Battle of Endor, quit within one year, and gave birth to Kylo the same year.
>>1319 >>1320 Men in Black 4 got $120 mil on marketing which was considered notably low for a 'normal' tentpole release so assume $175-200mil for a normal blockbuster google suggests that $200mil was current as of late 2014 so I'm maybe even underestimating this. This is soy wars so there's a lot of expectation and was known to be troubled so expecting it to be $300mil for advertising isn't unreasonable at all: that'd be only 150% or less of normal advertising for a film like this.
>>1356 >Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Holy fuck, that's serious sacrilege, and proof that it can indeed always get worse.
>>1360 Seriously. This is the timeline the book gives of the Star Wars saga. As an aside, the book makes canon the existence of Revan, Tenebrous, and a few other Sith, which has led to some truly disgusting lines on Woookipedia: >Revan was first mentioned in Star Wars canon in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a 2019 reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo that accompanied the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[1]
>>1356 >Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Why does Disney hate the OT and old era so damn much?
>>1375 So disney decanonizes the eu, shits out the nu trilogy crap while taking some eu elements but not copping to it because IT'S MINE NOW FUCK YOU THAT'S WHY, semi realizes the nu trilogy is still full of holes, re-uses eu elements and claims it under nu canon. Is that the orwellian gist of it?

Old interview about THX, many of the stuff still applies today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY2jcl7k7A8
>>1375 >>1360 This...is not a nice feeling I have
>>1376 Because Disney to too damn stubborn to admit that their Star Wars content is such garbage and that they're always clinging to their precious Rey timeline.
>>1375 What a fucking disgrace.
Open file (557.02 KB 299x192 107.gif)
Is this really the best they could fucking do? What a travesty Disney's been.
>>1069 I really wish someone would sheevpill him. I'm not a normalfag so I don't use twatter, but I'm sure some here do.
