It's so boring.
Imagine paying and going to a greaseshow filled with kids to watch this trash.
>>930 Indeed it is boring. The more time you have to think over the plot, the more you realize how much of it is contrived meaningles bullshit. Most of the plot is fetch quests, with the director the FORCE intervening at several points where the story would've otherwise hit complete dead-ends, like with Finn "having a feeling" or Rey getting her ghost pep-talk and coordinates.
I will have to come back to this later just to see how godawful it is.
>>933 So what I'm seeing here is that Yidsney stopped paying the irrelevant journos and are instead paying ShillingTomatoes directly to skew what everyone cares, which is word of mouth.
>>927 >cuckime
>>936 I should have specified "The old OVA," not the gay remake.
>>937 Mein neger.

>>913 how come you guys dont just schedule a cytube?
Open file (31.89 KB 527x516 awakenmysquad.png)
Well, at least the only good thing from this will be all the essays and deconstructions that'll come out over the next few years.
>>933 >verified ratings Hmmmmm.
>>935 Most of the professional critics loved TLJ so their reviews of Rise of Skywalker are mostly negative. They hate the fact that JJ tried to appeal to the fans, they wanted another "fuck the fans" like Rian did.
>>945 I don’t think Rian wanted to say “fuck the fans.” I think he wanted to make it like Episode V by providing twists that literally no one would anticipate and he did at the cost of sabotaging the rest of the story and worldbuilding.
>>933 RT is full of bullshitters? Can't say I'm surprised. And why are they so defensive about Disney Wars? Isn't RT owned by WB? Shouldn't they want their biggest rival to get mocked?
>>913 Just watching this now and I have the feeling that the translation crawl is probably the only part of any of this that's going to be enjoyable to watch.
>>954 >at the cost of sabotaging the rest of the story and worldbuilding. That's pretty a much a "fuck you" to the fans.
>>915 So he literally grabs the necklace off her neck, from trillions of lightyears away?? What the even actual fuck is this?
>>959 "The Power of Love!"
>>917 >Yoda struggles, two-handed, with an inert X-wing, submerged in water to make it lighter >MaRey Sue stops a moving Freighter with one hand
>>960 It breaks the universe. Again. If this is the case, if we can snatch physical objects through force visions, why not assassinations? Why not snatch a heavy object from over someone's bed? Why not force pull a heavy boulder onto someone's head from a trillion miles away? Hell, why not just stab them directly.
>>961 Didn't Galen Malek force a Star Destroyer into the round once?
>>963 Not sure who that is but if so, that's fucking stupid too.
>>919 >C3PO, fuck the fact you just essentially sacrificed your life for us all, move your ass you cyberfaggot! More like Poe Dicklickeron... amirite?
>>965 He's the protag from Force Unleashed. His notable feats include beating Vader within an inch of his life and creating the Rebellion. He was an OC donut steel like Kyle Katarn that was made non canon by disney.
>>919 Someone once shitposted that that ugly little megaphone droid exists to roll around and remind people of the 6 gorillion all day, and now I can't unsee it. Someone please, for the love of Kek, make it so. Please edit this thing with a weaselly little voice calling people anti-semite goys and never forget the six gorillion.
>>919 What the hell is that ugly little thing?
>>969 I call him Mack Guff Inn
>>919 >3PO move your metal ass Wow, they have less respect for the character than Han did. >can I kiss you So much for the "Poe is gay" fangirls.
>>966 C3PO arc might have been the most brutal for me and I'm apathetic to the character at best. >C3PO just fucking standing around watching all the protags debate on brain killing him >Protags brain kill him under protest >"Taking one last look at my friends" >Hooknose droid literally tells the audience to feel "sad" >But wait! WAKA WAKA HE'S NOT ACTUALLY KILL This is the director they hired to care and respect the franchise.
This scene was so retarded that my brainwaves flatlined for a bit.
>>972 >"Taking one last look at my friends" >friends >No Luke, no Leia, no Han, just this menagerie of asshats and fucking losers I barely even know C3PO... had a hard life.
>>921 Are they aiming for playful banter? Because it's seriously not coming out that way. It's coming out like all these characters really can't fucking stand each other.
>>913 >palpatine's reveal has no impact >kylo joins him with no convincing >palpatine tells kylo that rey isn't who he thinks she is, but doesn't tell him because???? >haha le funny table game accelerates to mach 10 flying even though there's no threat present >random new alien on board >it's somehow imperative that r2 downloads whatever they plugged into him, but then they don't return the cartridge... if the alien didn't need the cartridge back, why didn't they depart as soon as they got it? >>914 >wtf was any of that escape, i am so confused by what i just watched >rey training scene is mindbogglingly stupid for reasons that shouldn't even need explaining >kylo, who wanted to destroy both sith and jedi and kill the past, STILL has vader's helmet >bb8 managed to follow rey past all those gorges how? >haha falcon's on fire lol >even the movie acknowledges how stupid rey training is >palpatine gets his second reveal >literally just one guy thinks its bullshit, everybody else immediately buys it with zero proof >>915 >kylo getting a monkey to fix his helmet is a completely pointless scene >nigger sitting at the imperial generals table >festival scene starts out kind of impressive but gets irritating really quick >stormtrooper's helmet is so fucking shit that a BLOW DART lands an instakill >lando, a general, is running around on field missions killing stormtroopers with BLOW DARTS >all of lando's dialogue is so wooden >>916 >they steal somebody's transporter because??? >they fly now! xxDDDD >they collide with the ground going how fast but nobody's injured >quicksand doesn't open up to safety like this >sith language is "forbidden" >rey mary sues her way with the giant snake >>917 >rey mary sue's kylo's ship, which should have killed him >rey FUCKING KILLS CHEWIE HILARIOUS >jk chewie was somehow on another ship >they didn't have the balls to kill him right there or reveal him to be alive later on >bb8 finds a droid to help disney's toy sales >>918 >muh spice runner, as though they didn't know that's what han did >rey mary sues a whole group of people >in a whole galaxy of private collectors, private interests, etc, it is this nearly impossible to be able to make a single droid translate Sith >rose got ditched so we could have a scene of poe getting along with some random whore >3po learning sith turns his eyes red and voice deep >>919 >3po's brain is now completely fucked >these dumb motherfuckers manage to get onto an imperial hanger bay, shoot a bunch of troopers, and not one single alarm goes off >rey can sense chewie from a vast distance away but kylo can't sense that rey is no longer in the city >the spy was hux >>920 >muh palpatine granddaughter reveal >the gang somehow got a hold of the millennium falcon and i have NO idea how that happened >she'll never be a jedi? what? what the fuck does that mean? >the death star might have been blown the fuck up, but this part managed to survive >they opted to crash in the first place instead of riding all the way over >none of this makes any sense, where is this taking place >finn jives with his fellow nigger >rey mary sues the ocean because so what if she grew up on a desert planet and has no sailing experience
>>977 Great post. Julay really needs to fix the line return issue.
>>977 >>stormtrooper's helmet is so fucking shit that a BLOW DART lands an instakill I guess they figured that since the Ewoks' military triumph is so fondly remembered, they had to pay tribute.
>>975 Actually feel for him now, just cause of the writing. I I get they were trying to make us care about nu characters, but the way it's cut feels shoehorned just for the trailer.

>>977 >>978 Thank god for Ctrl-H
>>921 6:15-- "Unfff....fuuuckkkk!" Did I hear correctly? Did Finn just introduce the 'F' bomb to the galaxy far far away.
>>982 It's "AAugggh" in monkey. Honestly can't remember a single line from Finn other than screaming and "I never told you" to Rey which is never explored again.
>>982 I don't think so. Sounded more like "unff..aagh" with the low audio quality making it sound like the f carries over.
>>981 >rey mary sues the ocean because so what if she grew up on a desert planet and has no sailing experience Muh. Fucking. Sides.
>>982 This made me laugh.
>>922 1:44 -- I've never flown one of these before but I have a vagina so wheeeee, smash the patriarchhyyyyyyyy.
>>922 Fuckers! Chewie breaking down over Leia actually got me. This is like the first time one of them has even given a fuck upon hearing about another's passing. Fuck this movie. Just fucking fuck it.
It was shitty, but better than TLJ. It was mostly boring and I found myself rolling my eyes at stuff like the “Final Order” fleet rising out of the ground fully manned, the bait and switch with Chewbacca, Palpatine’s lightning blast, them fighting on horse-like creatures on the star destroyer and – actually i could go on like this forever. There was lots of cringe and it was just as bland as fuck.
>>922 Do these idiots realize how fucking significant nuking Alderaan was? I mean, it's not something where you just wake up one day and decide to kill a fully populated planet. This is, what, the 6th planet they've blown up. There'd be wholesale mutiny, the rebels would only have to sit back. The rest of the galaxy would devour these people and execute their leaders in public. When we nuked Japan I think the president vowed to never do something like that again. If he dared nuke two more countries they would've hanged him on TV. The world pretty much has avoided the idea of it like the plague. This shit is just so dumb.
It was a total dumpster fire of a movie. Also anyone else notice the lack of damage caused by the Star Destroyer falling onto corascaunt at the end? I mean its several thousand tons of metal colliding with a huge ass city.
>>923 >a ghost >Hair still blows in the breeze Joseph Smith went in the forest, dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb...

>>993 Man, you just reminded me of the Lusankya launch from Coruscant, that was so much cooler (and devastating) than this movie.
>>923 Wait, so what exactly was her plan after burning up Ren's ship? Did she plan on being stranded on that island like Luke, drinking gross tittay milk and being a hermit the rest of her life?
>>923 >Luke spends what little Force he has left on the other side lifting the X-wing from the water >Umm, thanks but no thanks. I don't need you manlifting for me. >MaRey Sue levitates into the air then flies off into space >The Force is female, dead sweety, smash the Patriarchy, wheeeeeee.
>>997 Which, again, is fucking dumb and breaks the universe. If ghosts can interact with the physical world, why wouldn't they just resurrect and continue their evil schemes? It'd be Jedi and Sith fighting one another as Force ghosts, forever.
important!!! please if #TheRiseOfSkywalker upsets you, don’t immediately put yourself behind the steering wheel. if you need to cry, take your time to sit somewhere and calm down before driving. please be safe.
the message from sheev in the opening crawl was only shown in fortnite btw https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=22&v=0vHrQCKaJiQ&
>>914 I must've missed it on the first watch, but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? "Light-Speed skipping"???? You just did three in-atmo no-calc jumps to planets, you should be dead, soooooo dead!
>>925 Kek, Finn curbing Rose like the fatty he got drunk and fucked at the party that one time, and now she's a little bit too clingy.
>>925 What's most fucked up about all this, the Emperor could've just appeared as a Force ghost, since the rules are shit and they can affect the physical world anyway, and the OT would still be preserved.
>>925 >Poe's sensors don't pick up a shitzillion starfighters heading his direction
>>>977 and now for part2 Seriously, don't watch this movie. >>921 >rey jumping around on rusted metal without so much as protective gloves >doors opening with no power source >leia has a force tummy ache, yoda clone drops her two cents >the giant wave crashing down on rey and kylo has NO effect on the niggers, who are now on the ship somehow? >they manage to make force push boring >leia just chooses to die, which effects kylo to the point where he drops his weapon, leading rey to feel nothing and instead stab him in the gut >>922 >rey realizes she made an oopsie >she may have rekt kylo but that's okay because now she has magic force healing powers! >she just steals kylo's ship and leaves him behind with the niggers and gang >not that it matters, because immediately after the gang is back to talk to leia who is now officially dead >chewie gets more of an emotional scene than when han or luke died >kylo is still stuck back on the death star and has a talk with his father's force ghost >he then tosses his lightsaber into the ocean because why not >laser technician troopers on the bridge >people hated bringing back death stars, let's do it again but this time the lasers will just be on star destroyers >muh final solution/order, muh general white pride >rey crashed kylo's ship with no survivors >>923 >force ghost luke tells rey to stop being stupid >flashback shows leia being better than luke at saber combat >the new super saber luke is giving rey is leia's old saber >but hey, don't worry, luke can still offer his x-wing which has been submerged in water for how many decades and would really some work done >r2 magically fixed 3po because why not >finn and poe are running the show because??? >rose gets her five seconds of film time in, she's super fat now >>924 >in the most suicidal assault ever, there is zero chance that "the rebels" should be able to survive this >this tower, which the empire acknowledges as the most vital thing in their arsenal, is for some reason not the single most defended object in the whole fleet >uh oh, they don't really need it, they'll just project from somewhere else, oh darn who could ever figure out from where, OH, DON'T WORRY GUYS, FINN HAS THE FORCE NOW AND KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE TO STRIKE >HORSES ON STAR DESTROYERS wouldn't fucking work mainly because there is no air in space and also all the ship needs to do is turn itself at an angle where they'd slide off this is absolutely the dumbest thing i've ever seen >rose is back for another second or two of screentime >rey was the chosen one for the sith, a plot point completely at odds with palpatine's desire for eternal life >"all the sith live in me" doesn't explain why palpatine needed rey or needs to transplant himself into rey if he can reclone himself at will, and even if it's been hinted at that the clones can't maintain his power than how would rey's body be able to hold all that sith power and rey's mary sue might? >just to jump ahead a bit, later on rey counters palpatine by saying that she's all the jedi. now, at least with palpatine, it can be argued that he says it because of some loose understanding of the scriptwriters on what sith do to their masters. how does that apply to rey? just to be clear, a sith does not absorb his master and his powers when he inevitably kills him. this isn't the last airbender and this isn't highlander. this is all complete nonsense written by people who have no ability or desire to understand the sources they're stealing from >nigger uses a bow and arrow to take down a flying stormtrooper >the rebel fleet is still not obliterated by the thousands of tie fighters that should have been deployed by now
>>1005 >message was too long >>>925 >kylo somehow got transportation while being stuck out in the middle of nowhere >it's not enough that rey kills him, she has to promise to be a sith as per some sort of ritual >proceeds to actually act out a ritual like it was a dedicated practice, which is funny, because how did plagius manage to do that while he was murdered in his sleep? >kylo's knights of ren show up to smack him around >rey magically teleports a lightsaber to kylo >rey then uses force deflection on blaster bolts >rek and kylo proceed to murder everyone >kylo is somehow right next to rey now >palpatine sucks out their life force to make himself stronger, which he could have done with force lightning because that's what force lightning does >poe realizes just how stupid all of this is >out of nowhere, millions of rebel ships >"it's not a navy, it's people" dup btfo >taking out the death star lasers means instant death for the star destroyers >palpatine has an audience now >the rebel assault means fuck all as palpatine yeets space with a lightning attack to end all lightning attacks >>926 >rey gets back up >a whole fleet of sheeps couldn't handle palpatine's power but rey's lightsaber does just fine >weird how well leia knew how to craft a lightsaber >anyway, palpatine dies >some shit happens nobody cares about >rey is thankfully finally dead except lol not really because kylo heals her with the force >they then kiss >and then kylo dies >why kylo's body disappeared and leia's body disappeared but rey's body didn't, i don't understand >>927 >poe doesn't get laid >the alien who we saw on the falcon maybe twice gets a hug >lesbian kissing scene >yoda clone gives chewie something? i don't know what that is >finn hugs poe but isn't seen anywhere with his nigger gf even though she said she'd stick with him >finn's nigger gf had a weird moment with lando >you know we're back on tatooine because OOTINI >instead of walking down like any normal person, she takes the time to make a sand sled for less than a yard's distance >nobody has been to luke's home in decades, this isn't what decades of abandonment look like in desert environments >rey uses earth jutsu to bury all but leia's saber >luke and leia force ghosts appear as rey renames herself as rey skywalker Also, I tried looking through the celebration scene more than once, and each time I failed to spot the new droid friend they tried to unveil. They just completely forgot about him. They did that so much in this movies, so much bumbling about with characters. Ignoring how all this may have been planned to stick it to us cis white nazis, these people had no idea what they were doing with any of this. Technical visuals may be fine, everything else is absolute trash. What is wrong with this world?
>>1006 >>a whole fleet of sheeps This movie would be better if space sheep attacked Sheev.
>>1005 I don't think the ships were in space, I thought they were in the clouds. Riding horses on top of them is still stupid, however.
>budget of $300m >hasn't even made back $60m >>1008 Doesn't really change much. You try running around somewhere high altitude and see where it gets you.
>>1006 >the alien who we saw on the falcon maybe twice gets a hug Y'know, the alien whose presence they never even explained to us or what the fuck he was even doing on the ship or where he came from. But his name is Klaud, don't question it. And don't question why his character model looks like a circumcised dick, or why they were so afraid to show his full character model in this movie.
>>1009 Don't forget reshoots. Budget is probably closer to $600m. It's going to be a fucking disaster.

At least the nigger got cucked and found some gap-toothed kween for himself.
>>1029 I wonder if they'll explain why he broke up with Rose in the nu-EU.

Watching this with you guys was a very nice Christmas gift though, thank you and a Merry Christmas to you all.

Okay, so, Palpatine's plan was to have Rey kill him to give himself the chance to transfer his soul into her body. Rey says no, so he says "So be it, Jedi" and attacks her. So Rey kills him. Somehow, despite dying by her hand, just like he wanted, he doesn't get to do the transfer. Is Rey supposed to be some kind of super pure hearted person who is able to strike down the Emperor without feeling even the slightest bit of malice, thus resisting the one thing she was literally born to do?

I just let run the webm on the side while doing something else, and at least the first half was them running around for some item that didn't even matter since ghost luke brought back his ship that just happen to have some coordinate or something. >>1098 >The jedi library was burned to the ground That's actually the final twist of the movie. Rey ended up swiping all the books sometime before it was burned and put them in the Millennium Falcon because she was so discouraged by Luke. It's shown for maybe three seconds when Finn opens up the drawer its in. When Yoda says, "that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess," he's talking literally. I'd have to think about it more, but I think what Rian was trying to communicate is that Luke was so caught up in protecting the Jedi Order from Kylo and others that he forgot its purpose, and only by being deceived into thinking it's been lost does he finally see that what he needs to actually do is confront Kylo. It's actually one of the most poignant moment in the saga and Yoda's best lesson. I can appreciate VIII for its subtly, but it loses itself in the bigger, plot-driving events.

Alright, I just got back from Episode IX. Despite knowing all the leaks, I didn't foresee how awful it would actually be on screen. Here's my ranking of all the films in the saga: V > IV > VI > VIII > III > I > II > VII > IX Now, I like VIII more than the prequels because the prequels were really poorly directed. I liked the resolution of Luke's story and how it explained how Kylo was beaten and that treating Kylo as a second Darth Vader is ridiculous. I also liked the direction things were taking with Kylo being the new leader. My biggest issues was the cheapening of the First Order by having the Dreadnought being so easily destroyed by a single bomber (I know they lost a lot of ships, but it should've been a more of a battle) and Holdo's evacuation plan/light speed ram, which cemented how utterly incompetent the First Order were. The casino sequence is also pretty terrible, but less offensive than what's already been seen in the prequels. In saying that VIII is a better film than the prequels, I do not mean it deserves to exist more over the prequels. The prequels expanded the Star Wars universe even more than the Original Trilogy in the best way possible. Their direction is bad enough to the point where I wouldn't want to watch them over the first four in my list, but it provided everything I love about Star Wars. Finally, for the last two films on my list, it was hard to choose. VII is just boring and resulted in the abhorrent sequel trilogy that shouldn't exist, but I just came back from IX, and it sure as shit could've been resolved better than that pathetic mess. The film is amphetamine. Too much shit happening and none of it made sense. A complete waste of time and not worth breaking down to analyze.
>>1173 I will admit 8 has an entertainingly terrible quality, especially this part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKp6tP1St7o Still, TPM is my favorite so I really disagree.

>>1101 >Palpatine kissed Luke's nephew Lol
>>1175 Purely as a film. I felt Rian fixed a lot of things mishandled in VII, but his contributions to the story were laughable at best. As I said, I like the prequels more than anything else from Star Wars, but their direction makes me wish that they got better treatment. The prequels have the strongest, most cohesive, story and high creativity. VIII resolved some of the things in VII the best it could have, including making Kylo into a villain, figuring out why Luke abandoned everything to live in fuckall, and giving the three protagonists an arc. Where it fucked up are how Poe and Finn's arc worked out, which included some lore-breaking, nonsensical stuff that added nothing. There's also Superman Leia, and having that thrown in so early on really soured the mood first time I watched it. Having Rian then come out and talk about "challenging fans" also sabotaged the conversation about anything that was good in it and immediately created intense division between those who liked it and those who don't. So, to boil it down for you; good resolutions to a bad story, bad contributions to a bad story, but direction was better even if writing is full of holes, thus making it more watchable than the prequels. >>1174 Yeah, this was a really dumb thing, but unfortunately not the dumbest thing, in VIII.

>>974 Oh yes, this was absolutely atrocious.
I've seen it. It was terrible, but there were some things about it that I enjoyed. I liked the stuff they ripped from the EU, like the Sith Empire in the unknown regions or Rey fighting dark Rey. I liked Ian McDiarmid, shame he didn't do anything noteworthy and Abrams doesn't know how to use him. I think making Rey his granddaughter wasn't the worst thing they could have done, and it gave her character a little depth. Also, I found her much less irritating this time around, and I think Daisy Ridley actually took acting classes. Other than that, I was impressed how they managed to incorporate Carrie Fisher using leftover footage only. That was impressive from a technical standpoint. Everything else was utter trash.
>>1190 >I liked the stuff they ripped from the EU, like the Sith Empire in the unknown regions or Rey fighting dark Rey. Yeah, that was cool. I think Rey should’ve been sought out by the Sith as Palpatine’s successor and she accepts the role in order to combat Kylo and the First Order. >I liked Ian McDiarmid, shame he didn't do anything noteworthy and Abrams doesn't know how to use him. I found his presence distracting, to be honest. I’d much rather have continued with more of the internal conflict rather than bring him back. Maybe a ghost would’ve been fine, but not more than that. >I think making Rey his granddaughter wasn't the worst thing they could have done, and it gave her character a little depth. Totally agree, but it really should’ve been covered in VIII. Also, I found her much less irritating this time around, and I think Daisy Ridley actually took acting classes. Sounds like you just got used to her. I feel she was better in VIII. >Other than that, I was impressed how they managed to incorporate Carrie Fisher using leftover footage only. That was impressive from a technical standpoint. Eh. I suppose. She really wasn’t in much, though.
>Totally agree, but it really should’ve been covered in VIII. Oh, yeah. If nothing else, this movie made it abundantly clear that they had no fucking idea what to do with this entire trilogy. Shit like Sheev being still alive, Rey being his granddaughter and stuff like that could have worked if it had been cohesively built up from the first movie. But no, JJ the hack just went wild with his mystery box bullshit because he probably didn't think he'd have to clean up his own mess. It's quite fascinating, actually. We're not even that far into it yet, and we already have what has to be one of the biggest cinematic failures of the century.
>>1186 >I don't get what's so difficult to understand. That’s why you are fucking retarded and have godawful taste. If you unironically like/prefer any of the Yidsney Soy Wars movies over the original six, you need to stop posting or neck yourself.
>>1194 >I'm not allowed to post here because I have a different opinion You pathetic, unbearable faggot. It's not exactly high praise to state that third of TLJ manages is superior to the prequels. They're horrendous.
>>1190 I agree, I also liked some of the visuals. but otherwise, this was a hot mess of a movie. it feels like they had a bunch of content and ideas and they threw it all together. >>1173 heresy. TLJ is a dumpster fire with a fancy, glossy sheen on top of it. for all the obvious flaws of the prequels, they're not rotten to the core the way TLJ is.
>>1198 >for all the obvious flaws of the prequels, they're not rotten to the core the way TLJ is. Agreed, TLJ only function is to show how not to do a SW film, how not to treat customers, and provide concrete proof the disneyfied lucasfilm storygroup is cancer. TPM will always be the weakest link in the PT, yet it's still more SW than all the disney nushit.
>>1173 Only good thing I will ever say about trash like TLJ is that at least it tries to be different unlike the mediocre trashfire that was TFA and Rise of Skywalker, and it has beautiful picture and scenery with amazing effects (except for the casino scene, that was just awful to look at). Best thing anyone can do now is just forget Disney's crap exists. The only one that's even watchable is TLJ but only if you have it on mute, replace the audio with classical music and have the visually ugliest scenes cut out. TLJ only works as a pretty moving painting. That's the only nice thing I can say about Disney's trash. TFA and The Rise of Skywalker absolutely have nothing going for them.
>>1186 The prequels were better because despite their flaws, at least those movies were made by a person who had his own vision of what he wanted his creation to turn out. Furthermore, those movies actually made the galaxy feel bigger, showing how the galactic leadership works and how the actions of the characters affect others around them. They added more planets. They showed the senate that represented tons of different species that we never saw or heard of before. They gave background on the galactic civil war that was based on rules laws and politics completely outside of our main characters purview or control. We got to see various cultures and groups with vastly differently life styles, like Coruscant, Naboo, Kamino, Genosis and a host or other planets and landscapes that we didn’t get the name of until way later. They weren't washed out products with no coherent storyline that make it look like traveling 10,000 light years only takes 20 minutes where Chewie and Lando take 30 minutes at most to gather every ship in the fucking galaxy. But hey if you like shit, let alone the shittiest movie in a shitshow trilogy that was so bad, the latest movie, which was also a shitshow, actually had to try and fix, whose the actor of Luke goddamn Skywalker goes into record saying that the role he played was not Luke at all, that's your choice. Just be aware that your choice is inherently wrong.
>>1173 >>1181 >>1186 >>1197 A "well-directed" turd is still just a chunk of shit shot from nice angles with good cuts, while the prequels have good ideas and a lot of charm with some bad execution and loads of ham. You might as well say you prefer well-shot scat porn over some heartboner-inducing monster girl drawings with a couple anatomy mistakes.
>>1225 I agree with you on every single point. That's why I said: >In saying that VIII is a better film than the prequels, I do not mean it deserves to exist more over the prequels. The prequels expanded the Star Wars universe even more than the Original Trilogy in the best way possible. Their direction is bad enough to the point where I wouldn't want to watch them over the first four in my list, but it provided everything I love about Star Wars. I wouldn't really want to watch any of them again aside from III. I know the sequel trilogy is a cashgrab, almost soulless, and it shouldn't have happened at all. That said, I liked Luke's conclusion in the story as well as how it tried to set up Kylo as the villain for IX. The latter is something I appreciated as a fan of cinema, while the former is something I appreciated as a fan of the franchise. I consider Luke's conclusion in VIII to be a highlight and something I wouldn't want to have tampered if we were in an alternate timeline with a much better trilogy. All it needed was more context as to why he was so shaken and less sucking on alien teets. The prequels were fumbled exceptionally badly, but I consider the story to far outshine the sequels and the originals. I will not get over that, just like how I won't forgive the sequels for their mishandling of everything that was Star Wars. I don't want to see Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones again. >>1227 Bullshit. Direction encompasses cinematography, as it does editing, sound design, actor directions, et cetera. It's the art of communicating the emotion of a narrative. If anything, you should be critical of George Lucas and his Kurosawa allusions, which are ultimately meaningless when he tells the CGI team to have Jar Jar stepping in shit the hour before. I know what was trying to be communicated with Anakin's story, but only looking at it on paper and seeing the rest of the extended universe can I can feel it.
>>1201 indeed. I'll explain SW with an apple analogy: the OT is like 3 good apples. the first is bright red, the second is flecked with gold and even better, and the third has a few brown spots but is otherwise fine. the prequels are like apples with rot on the outside, but once you scrape it off, the inside is still decent, and the third one is noticeably less affected. the Disney/sequel movies are like apples that look shiny on the outside, but are thoroughly decayed and rotten within. which would you rather have? the prequels screwed up on execution, and I think the clone wars should've happened earlier in the timeline, but otherwise there's still vision and good ideas at the core. with Disney, you've got shiny, sfx-laden garbage.
>>1231 I guess I should clarify before people get on my ass about this that I agree with every point about the prequels. IX didn't fix anything and even if Mark Hamill thinks his character is ruined, he's not the authority on all things Luke Skywalker because Luke Skywalker isn't absolute. He's a character that Mark plays and while he might inhabit the role so much that it's difficult to separate the two, it's important to remember that they are two very different things. You can't change the face of Luke even if there is an actor that is better suited without expecting considerable confusion, though, like how they made Robert de Niro the Irishman in The Irishman. Most of Mark's complaints seem to be related to the "how" of it anyways, as in how did he end up in the ass-end of space. This wasn't covered well, though I attribute that to the implausible backstory of Kylo set up before Rian took the reins.
>>1231 you are such a redditor.
The more I think about the ending of 9, the more I get the feeling of how satanic it all is. The message of "but she overcame the sins of her grandfather's name and bloodline, just like Luke redeemed Vader and restored the Skywalker name, but even better because Force is Female!" can not ease the alarming gut feeling that the Skywalker line was murdered and everything about them was usurped by something very evil.
>>1231 >That said, I liked Luke's conclusion in the story A conclusion which goes against everything about the character all for some cheap hack attempt at "subverting expectations".
>>1231 > I liked Luke's conclusion in the story I'm sure you liked the conclusion of the character in the story who literally symbolizes hope and optimism in A New HOPE being depicted as a pessimistic coward who, after training with Yoda himself, somehow ended up failing to be a Jedi master - so much so that his sister's son ended up becoming a fucking Sith - and then went into exile where he drank blue milk and, after all the trouble of leaving his dead-end farmboy life and finally discovering the mystical power of the force in Return of the JEDI, did a 180 and outright said it's all bullshit and that the Jedi should end, shortly after crying over Yoda burning down all remaining records of Jedi history and culture that he believed, and then finally dying alone for no reason after pulling an astral projection.
>>1239 You are wasting your time, I'm pretty sure the poster is the "rian poster", his job is simply to push the idea that TLJ is somehow not a pile shit for low IQ consumers.
>>1239 >I'm sure you liked the conclusion of the character in the story who literally symbolizes hope and optimism in A New HOPE being depicted as a pessimistic coward who, after training with Yoda himself, somehow ended up failing to be a Jedi master - so much so that his sister's son ended up becoming a fucking Sith The way Episode VII set up Kylo Ren as this second Vader was a massive mistake. The difference between Ben and Anakin is that Anakin had a reason to turn to the Sith. >and then went into exile where he drank blue milk and, after all the trouble of leaving his dead-end farmboy life and finally discovering the mystical power of the force in Return of the JEDI, did a 180 and outright said it's all bullshit and that the Jedi should end I'm not so sure of that. I think he wanted to find a reason for it to end it, but he couldn't fully convince himself that it had all been for naught as he would have otherwise destroyed everything. As to why he was so disheartened, it was because he felt fear and failed just like Yoda, Obi-wan, Anakin, and the Jedi Council had, despite millenniums of teaching and wisdom and the Chosen One fulfilling his prophecy. >Yoda burning down all remaining records of Jedi history and culture that he believed That didn't happen. Rey took the books. >and then finally dying alone for no reason after pulling an astral projection. He had a reason. To ensure the Jedi continue and to confront what he feared most. >>1244 I like a portion of the film. The rest of it is garbage. >>1316 >marketing costs, which is probably another 300-600 mil. Does that include the paid shills?
>>1011 >>1316 >>1318 What's the ballpark total budget for a movie these days, the cost of production + the cost of marketing which can be half up to equal the total cost of marketing? And that is not including re-shoots, so roughly guessing here. 600mil(indluding reshoots) + say 300mil for marketing which clearly did not pay enough of the access media or not enough or no longer working, 900mil total? That's fucking insane if that figure is even half accurate. The chinese box office numbers are not going to save their asses, we'll see by the 2nd weekend tally but the first opening weekend is sub par for their expectation, they fucking downgraded their projection in 2 days iirc, the merch is doing worse ever since TLJ. Are they going to hope that the DVD/Bluray and streaming will bring them back from the dumpster fire?
>>1319 You're extremely off there. TLJ cost ~$300mil to make. The reshoots only cost ~$20 to $30mil, and marketing is budgeted by the studio at the start of the year. TLJ didn't "cost" more in marketing, it just has used a larger piece of the marketing pie for that year. It still is an opportunity cost for them to use that money on the film, but they didn't really lose anything doing so. I would say the total cost of TLJ with production + marketing is in the ~$600mil range, which is still crazy high, and they haven't recouped their losses as of me writing this, but it's not 900 million dollars. I'd still categorize this launch as a failure though. https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Star-Wars-The-Rise-of-Skywalker-(2019)#tab=summary

The guy who first asked him asked about some mixed reviews online, the guy stammered a bit," uh sure there was some uh uneven moments but uh, yeah it was great overall, uh still". It was like hearing someone try to force down a shitty meal. >a group of younger people, the type that disney would want for their new generation of audience, was barely lukewarm about it and treated it as disposable fast food they just consumed.
Here is a link to the Star Wars IX visual dictionary. Its Pablo Hidalgo desperately trying to fix all the plot holes in this movie. https://mega.nz/#!MHg0QSaI!Z684zZUK_KIK61M62mf1RKz7DjkVF5qoSynovNT1nZw
>>1345 >desperately trying to fix all the plot holes in this movie. All the king's space horses and all the king's wahmenz can not fix it.
>>1346 Tell me about it. In fact the book seems to create more problems and confusion with this film. It also tries to add a bunch of stuff from old canon that no longer works with Disney's canon. It just makes Disney's Star Wars even more confusing.
>>1353 > It also tries to add a bunch of stuff from old canon that no longer works with Disney's canon. It just makes Disney's Star Wars even more confusing. What in the fuck, why are they still stuck on "adding more will fix it!" when that is at least half the problem. While the other is nihilistic ideologue driven "muh post modernism deconstruction" bullshit.
>>1345 >The Rise of Skywalker concludes the storyline that leapt onto screens in The Force Awakens >such memorable characters as Rey, FInn, and Poe Dameron I laughed. Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Also, that time Leia beat Luke in a lightsaber duel? She was pregnant at the time. She started training shortly after the Battle of Endor, quit within one year, and gave birth to Kylo the same year.
>>1319 >>1320 Men in Black 4 got $120 mil on marketing which was considered notably low for a 'normal' tentpole release so assume $175-200mil for a normal blockbuster google suggests that $200mil was current as of late 2014 so I'm maybe even underestimating this. This is soy wars so there's a lot of expectation and was known to be troubled so expecting it to be $300mil for advertising isn't unreasonable at all: that'd be only 150% or less of normal advertising for a film like this.
>>1356 >Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Holy fuck, that's serious sacrilege, and proof that it can indeed always get worse.
>>1360 Seriously. This is the timeline the book gives of the Star Wars saga. As an aside, the book makes canon the existence of Revan, Tenebrous, and a few other Sith, which has led to some truly disgusting lines on Woookipedia: >Revan was first mentioned in Star Wars canon in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a 2019 reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo that accompanied the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[1]
>>1356 >Interesting that the BBY/ABY calendar has been abolished in favour of "before/after Starkiller". Why does Disney hate the OT and old era so damn much?
>>1375 So disney decanonizes the eu, shits out the nu trilogy crap while taking some eu elements but not copping to it because IT'S MINE NOW FUCK YOU THAT'S WHY, semi realizes the nu trilogy is still full of holes, re-uses eu elements and claims it under nu canon. Is that the orwellian gist of it?

Old interview about THX, many of the stuff still applies today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY2jcl7k7A8
>>1375 >>1360 This...is not a nice feeling I have
>>1376 Because Disney to too damn stubborn to admit that their Star Wars content is such garbage and that they're always clinging to their precious Rey timeline.
>>1375 What a fucking disgrace.

Is this really the best they could fucking do? What a travesty Disney's been.
>>1069 I really wish someone would sheevpill him. I'm not a normalfag so I don't use twatter, but I'm sure some here do.
