We are back Robi Board owner 04/14/2025 (Mon) 20:15:43 No.59
We are back. Sorry for the extended downtime. I will write a more detailed timeline of what happened soon, I'm out of time for now. The long story short is that our previous hosting service BuyVM (either accidentally or intentionally) disconnected the drive on which all our live data was stored, and completely stonewalled me for 20 days and counting. Why wait so long? Since we had a good long-term relationship with BuyVM (they were usually very responsive and caused us no problems) I was hoping to resolve the issue amicably and get all our data back. However they've unfortunately left me no choice but to leave them. The Damage Here's the bad news: - I miscalculated how much image data we were missing. The latest image data backup was taken on January 30th; this means we are missing images from about the last 50 days. All previously-restored images are still with us, however. - We are now behind Cloudflare, as it was the quickest solution I had to protect the backend server. Use a VPN or TOR if this is a problem. I have reduced the protection settings to the lowest level possible, so you shouldn't get blocked by Cloudflare; let me know via admin at this domain if you are blocked and I'll look into it. I'll look into a better solution once I have more time on my hands. The upshot is that almost everything else has been fully backed up and ready to restore once I have the time for it. Restoration Status - Post data: OK - Image data: OK (mostly) - New canary: TODO - TOR hidden service: OK - Monitoring: OK - Guntstream: OK - julay.world redirect: OK - E-mail server migration: OK - Automated backups (text): OK - Automated backups (image): TODO - Off-site backups: TODO - Image reupload addon: TODO

Note: The site might be off-and-on for the next few hours as the DNS records update. If you end up on alogs.space/oops/, just press the back button and it should take you to the original page.
I have a BUMP archive from just a day or two before the outage for /robowaifu/ . So, we can reprise our previous approach from before to restore our files, perhaps?
>>69 Welcome back. Yes, that would work fine.
>>68 Topkek. >tfw you will nevar be this dedicated to your music
>>70 OK, I'll try to make time to get this together. Give me till around Thu or Fri , if you would.
>>72 I'll do you a solid, and grab all the SHA256 hashes that are missing from just the past 50 days. Then you can only send images with matching hashes, which would significantly reduce the amount of data you'd have to send me. I'm available on IRC like before.

One more test, this time it should work...
On the bright side, the new server seems to have significantly higher bandwidth than BuyVM. We're still in the US, and the new hosts claim to uphold freedom of speech (they do have a quite nice AUP that only bans obvious stuff like CP and botnets/spammers). We'll see how long that lasts (hopefully for a while).

>>73 Yeah totally makes sense Robi, thanks. AS YOU ALREADY KNOW, I'M A RETARD AT SYSADMIN. :DD Maybe you can help me write the Bash script to find the right files to send? <---> Also, plan to discuss migrating our past month from from Trashchan (we had a big Bunkerfest party!) I feel most of us would like to bring back all that content here on our homeboard. (Kind of like bringing undocumented swag back through Customs. :)
>>77 That sounds good to me. I'll write a script that can go through the whole BUMP directory and collect matching files into an output directory, should be pretty simple to do. Worst case scenario we just figure it out interactively. >I feel most of us would like to bring back all that content here on our homeboard. I don't know if we can do that automatically, but you're more than welcome to.
>>78 I'll just make another BUMP archive of trash/robowaifu/ , then pass that whole thing off to you? Some (most?) of those new threads rightfully should be appended to currently-existing threads here on /robowaifu/ . A few would be new threads here.
>>75 Kek. I remember this. :D
>>79 The main problem is importing that's not gonna be an easy job. You can give it to me as part of restoring the images but I can't guarantee that I can directly import them.
>>81 Mind spelling out the technical difficulties involved? Maybe I myself can write a parser for the JSONs or something?
>>81 BTW, I think you'll find my BUMP'd JSON files for alogs/robowaifu/ to be more current than what I'm seeing on our board r/n (maybe I'm wrong?) If that turns out being the case, then we'd like to patch that up as well. I'll pack up all the thread's JSON & HTML files along with, when I send you the missing files from my last archive of alogs/robowaifu/ .
>>83 Actually, check that. I think I may simply be mis-remembering some posts that seemed missing. I'll try to confirm this explicitly on way or other, when I can make the time to dig into that last BUMP archive on my end.
Sank u robi
>>73 >I'm available on IRC like before. My apologies, but I forgot your schedule. I'm ready now as before when you are.
The TOR hidden service has been restored at its previous address: http://bhlnasxdkbaoxf4gtpbhavref7l2j3bwooes77hqcacxztkindztzrad.onion In the worst-of-worst case scenarios, I still hold the keys to this hidden service, so we can go all the way back to having an onion-only presence. Therefore, keep this address somewhere safe.

Automatic daily in-server database backups are enabled. Off-site backups are still a WIP; I have a plan that should cover us reliably both for text and image data.

Automatic system monitoring is now back up on a secondary server. This means that even if the server itself goes down I should get automatic notifications about it. --- Verified that in-server database backups are taken automatically as planned. Took a new off-site text backup. A full media backup will be taken in the weekend.

BTW Robi have you checked out cuckchan's source leak?
>>92 Haven't had a chance to, but regardless, there's nothing much of interest there other than things to point and laugh at. It's written in a completely different programming language to Lynxchan anyway.
>>90 Sounds great, Robi. >>92 >>93 On this topic, apparently the exploit vector was revealed by the 1337 skiddie eminent h4xx04 . Figured I'd at least bring it to your attention just in case: (I'll need to hotlink for you) https://trashchan.xyz/robowaifu/thread/77.html#816
>>94 Regarding a question from GTA on trashchan: >Wait, I've done this on alogs to upload ZIP files. >Did Robi make sure that his site is safe from that exploit? Lynxchan does not generate thumbnails from PDF files, so this is not a possible attack vector.
>>94 Also, I believe I have now resolved the issue with the e-mail, so please try reaching out to me that way again if IRC isn't feasible.
>>95 Good to hear. Thanks for the information. >>96 Great! I'll let everyone know. Cheers.
>>96 Hey Robi, I've tried adding Greentext anon to the Vols listing (via the usual method of needing to block JS first). I get what looks like a successful 'Volunteer added' response, but when I go back into the page and check, 'gta' isn't being listed. Did I do something wrong? Please feel free to go ahead add his account for me if you'd like to. (cf. >>>/robowaifu/37624 )
>>98 I can see him in the list now, can you not?
>>99 >>99 OK, I'm seeing him now. Thanks, Robi!
Full off-site database and media backup taken. /robowaifu/ BUMP media backup will be restored tonight.
OK, the /robowaifu/ BUMP media backup has been restored, but there's a minor issue with files (because of garbage LynxChan code). Because I had to regenerate the thumbnails, the thumbnail file sizes different, and instead of just looking at the on-disk size LynxChan decides to send only the first X bytes of the thumbnail (whatever's defined in the database). Trying to see if I can regenerate these file sizes based on what's on disk.
>>103 Fixed. 279 files have been restored to /robowaifu/. A full off-site media backup has been taken with the restored files.

>>104 Woohoo!! I'll let the lads know to start packing things up. Thanks for the updates, Robi.
Downtime's going to be a bit delayed. For some reason our upload speeds are in the shitter outside of the US, so my pre-emptive database backup is taking longer than usual.
Alright, upgrade done.
>>107 Thanks for the headsup! Cheers.
Seems like I misconfigured Cloudflare a bit and it was aggressively caching some pages like the moderation pages. This has now been fixed.
https://julay.world/ has been updated to point to alogs.space natively instead of using the old server. The changes might take a few hours to propagate completely.

Tried to revive Guntstream but it relies on an ancient version of Python and no longer works on our new server. I'll have to upgrade the dependencies so that it works again. Will be done in the weekend. SIKE, managed to run it. Actual streaming runs off another server so all functionality should be restored now.
