gonna b real, I doubt the anti-Lucas narrative that people always seem to buy into.
The idea that he's mostly an idiot who just "had dumb luck" with the originals.
I don't think his ideas or even his approach to filmmaking (I'm referring to the first edit of Star Wars 1977, that everyone complained about being so slow) are bad at all.
Star Wars is a strange beast. The message, and the effect, of the film are so positive, and I think a lot of people mistake cynicism with maturity, and so are afraid to feel as positive as Star Wars makes them feel. People always act like Empire is this amazing film, when it's actually pretty emotionally depressive, where the original Star Wars has this effect of leaving you feeling charged with energy and excitement ... and I personally think that's the mark of the better film.
I think people don't know how to handle pure, mature, positivity, and so they try to trash George as some immature nutjob, when he's actually very stable, talented ... offbeat sure, but he's never come across as particularly unreasonable to me.
I had a concept art book for Revenge of the Sith and there was this honestly pretty badass concept for this race of Lemur like aliens that were early versions of the Utapau inhabitants.
