There's two things there.
One redditor found a gold master source code disk for Starcraft, meaning they had everything. Assets, code, you name it.
Instead of releasing it, he gave it back to Blizzard in exchange for a ticket to a conference and a pittance in their online store.
Another redditor found an XBox development kit, one of only 50. He wiped the hard drive, gutted the whole thing, and made his own gaming PC out of it, then bragged about it on a PC gaming subreddit thinking people would praise him because "fuck consoles". To this day nobody has yet managed to make a fully functional PC emulator for the XBox.

Even worse was the fact that he didn't know what it was initially. So instead of spending 5 seconds to simply enter, "what is source code"/"what are gold master copies", into any damn search engine, he instead plastered that question into reddit. Of course he wasn't practicing any privacy at all so that question immediately tied his real life identity to having the disc. Even if he had the intelligence to want to release the source code, he would have been too much of a coward since Blizzard would have legally rammed him a new asshole.
