TLDR on the SocJus / woke elements:
* The lead is an educated woman who wants to be a scientist / is implied to already have a degree in science and wanting to go fruther.
* All her actions are shown as justified one way or another by the plot.
* The Male lead is basically lifted from another adaptation only he's given a personality transplant such that he's literally a stereotype "Bleeding heart liberal" journalist. He at one point lectures another on how the Martians are possibly divine punishment on the English for colonialism. He's also a coward leaving a man to die when he does have a bit of a chance to save him and he doesn't want to fight the Martians but suggests he should try Negotiating with them.
* Other characters that are on about colonialism, one whose whole character is just a caricature yelling about expanding the British empire beyond the stars.
* Female Lead (Amy) is the one credited with helping save the human race in the end.
* All other male characters except for the Scientist who helps Amy is shown as having fairly obvious negative traits and failings.
* Talk about how the Martians may be a secret Russian super weapon and how the Russians may be about to start a war with the UK (as a reminder the Russians were on the side of the Triple Entente which included England in World war 1)
* George (the male lead) on about how something "isn't very progressive" at one point.

This isn't a case of Get Woke Go broke though bickers there's a lot of other things wrong with this adaptation it's just the woke stuff sticks out like a sore thumb as the only character with more than one dimension to them is Amy (the female lead), who in anything else would be fine as a character but it's the fact compared to basically the rest of the other characters she's more fleshed out and shown as right or justified or as making the better decisions and her actions shown as justified etc.
