Silent Hill Anonymous 03/05/2023 (Sun) 16:38:00 No.1124
There is no “Other World” in the original Silent Hill and the fog world is the real world that’s already been over run by monsters and everyone has already been killed while the dark world is Hell merging with reality. All the nurses in Silent Hill have been “impregnated” with demons just like Cybil had. Lisa died because she became fully taken over by the parasitic demon while the parasite in Cybil was killed by the aglaophotis Harry had. Silent Hill 2 takes place in a completely different version of Silent Hill because the series was originally meant to be an anthology before Team Silent was pressured into making a follow up to Silent Hill 1’s story and at that point they just mixed mashed the two different concepts of Silent Hill into the confusing mess it is know for today
>>6568 Literally all of SH1 monsters are metaphors and manifestations of Alessa's and Cheryl's fears.
>>6569 >monster dogs >monster birds >monster gorillas >Lisa >Cheryl That might be true for some but not at all for others. The point of the game is that everything in silent hill actually happened. There's no ambiguous 'oh you think they're monsters?', because they are monsters. Go back to the real world, everyone's dead because they gotten eaten by the monster dogs and gorillas. Go to the otherside, monsters created from the subconcious mind of a little girl attack you, but none of the monsters are specifically manifestations of her fear. there are no grope/rape monsters, no monsters that burn you or set fire to you, none of the monsters reflect any of the ordeals that the little girl has gone through.
>>6570 >monster dogs Chery's fear of dogs and Alessa's burned skin (dogs have burned skin). >monster birds Cheryl's fear of pterodactyls as seen in the book she read. >monster gorillas Which one is a "gorilla"? Romper? Romper is Alessa's fear of adults as it appears as a man leaning down.
>>6571 >burnt dogs They aren't burnt, they've got rotting skin and have wormheads on the otherside. I just looked on the silent hill wiki and the wiki says dogs because she has a fear of dogs, but the japanese stuff most of the monsters are based on charactersf rom books Alessa read as a child and aren't fear based. In fact there seems to be a seperation in ideas, the japanese developers released a bible with silent hill 3 and then peopel decided to extend their own interpretations outside of this provided material for the wiki, so for example the 'grey child' symbolism that they're the reflection of Alessa's cursed classmates goes contrary to the bible saying that they are meant to reflect small animals and mencaing creatures from fairytales. I'm not going to argue with you about ideas like 'death of the authro', but the japanese sources say a lot of these designs are based on fairytales while the wiki then goes to create interpretations that connect them directly to Alessa's character. For example the bible says that the air screamers are a manifestation of an illustration Alessa enjoyed from a conan doyle book but there's no mention of her being afraid of it at all. We can definitely meet in the middle and say that many of the creatures are created out of Alessa's imagination though have signifigant personal meaning, while characters like the puppet nurse would be directly related to her experiences. Most of the enemies are animal like or based off the mumbler/grey child, and a lot of the symbolism is additional 'lore' from users. The developers based much of the story off of the director's love of lynch and ufo mysteries while a junior coder/3d artist filled in a lot of the details himself so there's really a lot of ways you could take it. But everything being a deep personal metaphor is very much a SH2 idea and not true to SH1

>>6578 >They aren't burnt, they've got rotting skin They have the appearance of burned skin, it's doesn't have to be literally burned which is too on the nose. >material for the wiki Nobody gives a flying fuck what the wiki says, it's ran by literal troons. The creature commentary is all you need and most of the fears are self explanatory through in-game lore like dogs, insects, nurses, doctors etc. >But everything being a deep personal metaphor is very much a SH2 idea and not true to SH1 It is all deeply connected to Alessa/Cheryl either way, no monster in SH1 is just a random monster unrelated to the events of the story. SH2 just evolved the idea.
>>6579 its from japan so its definitely meant to be burnt or at least crispy
>>6579 Yeah, that's the silent hill 3 release isn't it? I can tell because the doctor enemy references future games. So it's not the original silent hill 1, it's the later compository. Most of those details were added by the junior 3d artist, which is why I didn't want to get into death of the author, because who takes precidence, the director of the game, or someone who took it on themselves to fill out the story later? Also half those descriptions validate what I've said, the nurse puppets aren't even related to Alessa's fears, they're infected by a parasite, the mumbler has nothing to do with Alessa's classmates, the air screamer is from her favorite book, the giant lizard is another fairybook character, woodsucker is a generic dislike for gross stuff, the scratcher is from a picture she saw, the floatstinger is from a specimen decorating her room, it's stuff pulled from her imagination with a few important pieces directly connecting to her, while Silent Hill 2 is 'Everything is a reflection of James suffering mind and has a very specific meaning.' The romper 'a manifestation of Aleesa's fear of adults' ok, that's fairly general, it's not 'the direct manifestation of the cult molestor who finger blasted her butt', where James has enemies that are 'the ghost of his dead wife', 'the monster that represents his murder rape boner' 'Jame's guilt over murdering his wife' One is not a reflection of Harry's fears or a metaphor for his struggle with his marriage or his relationship with his daughter, they're monsters pulled from a little girl demon's imagination, very physically real enough to murder an entire town, and can infect real people with parasites. Silent Hill 2 he just sort of shows up and it's all directly about him and what he went through, and it's even implied that the otherside and the monsters are simply in James head. 'You see monsters?' Can't you see the major difference in the themes involved? As gross as it is to say Silent hill 1 and 4 share more in common than 1 and 2.
>>6581 >Most of those details were added by the junior 3d artist That's literally your headcanon. >stuff pulled from her imagination <aren't even related to Alessa's fears >a few important pieces directly connecting to her, while Silent Hill 2 is 'Everything is a reflection of James suffering >The romper 'a manifestation of Aleesa's fear of adults' ok, that's fairly general, it's not 'the direct manifestation of the cult molestor who finger blasted her butt', where James has enemies that are 'the ghost of his dead wife', <SH2 just evolved the idea

>>6580 mm, crispy dogs
>>6582 >literally your head canon '...Sato took it upon himself to add details and fill in the story after...' Ok that's sure some headcanon I managed to make real. >Aren't related to her fears. No, that's why some are specified to be fears and others are said to be pulled from the fairytales she read. Because some are about what she's afraid of and some are just part of her imagination. >sh2 evolved the idea It's not an evolution of the idea because it's not the same idea. It looks the same because they share a name but the manner in which the idea of the world and enemies are used to reflect the fears and subconcious workings are completely different. Silent Hill 2 is the outlier of the series, it wasn't even popular in japan when it was released because of the changes in style. That's why Silent hill 3 goes right back and connects to silent hill 1, leaving out almost all the personal metaphor material and concentrating on the monsters being real creations brought into existance by a demon. They actually started developing 3 and 4 at the same time too which is why they all share the same cult plotline.
>>6584 Here's another one. Silent Hill2 is considered one of the best games to have ever been released, and when it came out in Japan they 6 and 7 out of ten'd it while it supposedly got 8-9 and 10's across the board in North America. https://twitter.com/adsk4/status/1087991672624107520 https://imgur.com/bAZijbZ (first impressions without historical revision) https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/silent-hill-2-review/1900-2814382/ <unsourced quote> "I don’t have my old gaming magazines, so I barely remember some of the press, but when I intereviewed Jeremy Blaustein he mentioned that Silent Hill 3 was what it was because people thought Silent Hill 2 was “too psychological.” So , in response to the backlash of some people, they made Silent Hill a direct sequel to the first game, including characters related to that story, the cult, Alessa, Lisa, the whole birthing god stuff, and even blood and rust. So the devs listening to what people were saying about the games is not something that has only happened recently." https://tokenflipguy.tumblr.com/post/116409990840/the-thing-is-when-sh2-came-out-i-will-never "The thing is, when SH2 came out, I will NEVER forget the fan reaction. “Why wasn’t it more like SH1??” “It’s too psychological”“ THAT is why SH3 went in the direction IT went. Creators should not listen to their critics and fan base overly much or their creativity will be diluted until it is beige, bland and boring." Mashiro Ito has a bunch of comments dragging silent hill 2's reception and sales when it came out, but the consensus was that Silent hill 2 was too invested in the idea of personal symbolism and that's why every other game is based off the first and not a follow up to what is called one of the best games ever released.
>>6584 >'...Sato took it upon himself to add details and fill in the story after...' >Ok that's sure some headcanon I managed to make real <some random quote out of context yeah, you did
>>6591 At least bother to learn instead of being an asshole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takayoshi_Sato This is Silent Hill's 3d artist. He did all the model and cgi work. He also filled in details about characters and story lore after.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keiichiro_Toyama This man created the story. He also created Siren, a direct successor to the ideas of Silent Hill. He based Silent hill 1 off of his love of occult, paranormal, and hollywood movies. Siren would be the actual sequel to his Silent Hill 1. Silent Hill 2 is directed by...Takayoshi Sato! He's the artist responsible for adding the symbolic elements to Silent Hill 1! You can tell because his baby, Silent Hill 2 is aaaalll about the Symbolism, while Toyama, the director of the first, went on to create Siren, a game about demonically possessed monsters who kill people in the small town they've taken over during a blood red fog, very similar to the original ideas he wrote for Silent Hill 1. Silent hill 2 did so well and impressed Konami so much that they got rid of Sato after he pitched a 3rd Silent Hill game to them, went with Kazuhide Nakazawa instead and promptly went back on all the ideas that Takayoshi Sato introduced, going right back to the idea that all the monsters are created by a demonic entity.

The only two moments of courage James shows is when he's killing his wife and killing the two pyramid heads at the end of the game, after coming to terms with the fact he killed his wife.
