https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_silk https://phys.org/news/2025-06-scientists-revive-legendary-golden-sea.html >Scientists revive legendary golden sea silk using Korean pen shell byssus >A luxurious fiber once reserved exclusively for emperors in ancient times has been brought back to life by Korean researchers. A team led by Professor Dong Soo Hwang and Professor Jimin Choi has successfully recreated a golden fiber, akin to that of 2,000 years ago, using the pen shell (Atrina pectinata) cultivated in Korean coastal waters.
>>42300 Very cool! This could be an exceptional & exquisite material to use for decorating our robowaifus with. >akin to that of 2,000 years ago Its quite older than that, it seems.
https://github.com/agemagician/ProtTrans >ProtTrans is providing state of the art pre-trained models for proteins. ProtTrans was trained on thousands of GPUs from Summit and hundreds of Google TPUs using various Transformer models.

>>42313 I actually believe research on covid proteins is important. God knows the Chinese didn't research it when they let it escape their labs.
I'm hearing that people are looking into this for proteins folding computation. https://gridcoin.us/
>>42325 What is Gridcoin? Gridcoin is an open source cryptocurrency (Ticker: GRC) that rewards volunteer computing for science through the BOINC platform and Folding@home. What is BOINC? BOINC is an open source platform for volunteer computing that lets individuals use their computers & phones to help science research. It is free to use and already home to 30+ projects over a range of scientific disciplines. Examples include protein structure prediction (Rosetta@home), mapping the Milky Way galaxy (Milkyway@home), and tackling problems in public health and clean energy (World Community Grid). How can I Participate? Individuals: Earn Gridcoin by contributing your computing power to science, or participate in an economy based on science by using Gridcoin for payments like any other cryptocurrency. See the table below for more information.
Aerial mycelium is growing in my fuel cell. I think the mycelium is shorting the electrodes because I am not getting any current.
>>42328 The mycelium is growing around the carbon fiber cloth.
It has also stopped reading voltage for an unknown reason. I'm going to add water and see what happens
Open file (1.88 MB 4000x3000 20251017_185939.jpg)
I JUST ADDED WATER ANS IT IS OSCILLATING BETWEEN 230 AND 270MV IT'S FUCKING SPIKING!
>>42341 IT'S ALIVE!111 D:)
>>42342 IT'S A FUCKING BIOSENSOR!
>>42343 THE BLOB IS COMING!111
>>42343 So what is interesting (but not unexpected) is that the water made the hydrogel conduct electricity again. It needs to have a certain water content for the sensor effect to work
Of intredast; on-topic ITT: https://open-neuromorphic.org/
>>42474 Sure! I don't think it could hurt at all, and you might discover some direct applications there. Good thinking Ribose.
So I have been thinking about a crazy design on how to get nutrients from the stomach to the "brain". So the stomach is a sack of conductive starch based hydrogel and oyster mushrooms. Then I want to use braided Teflon to use capillary action to feed the artist conk brain.
>>42512 That sounds intriguing, Ribose.

>>42514 "The stomach" it had a green fungus infection and the voltage dropped. I also had an idea for an immune system where the fungus would tell where an infection is based on voltage signals recieve and respond with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or heat.
>>42515 This is intredasting, but if you wind up needing to recreate the entire immune system to protect this, then I think you're on a wild goose chase that will take hundreds of years to solve. Obviously, we have robowaifus to deliver to the world long before that!! :D
>>42515 >>42518 Wow, we have artificial organs that can get sick. We really are an advanced breakaway civilization >immune system Why not just make it sealed, with a sealed latch for the "food"? If it needs air, a filtered intake could work, though it might take energy for fans.
>>42521 Heh, good point. :^) >Why not just make it sealed, with a sealed latch for the "food"? If it needs air, a filtered intake could work, though it might take energy for fans. You're touching on a few (just a few) of the reasons I strongly-discourage relying on living organisms within our robowaifus. We'll have trouble enough with "hitchhikers" without intentionally adding such into her systems! :D
>>42521 If my girl is to walk around and eat dinner and go to church with me then she needs an immune system.
>>42518 I don't think I need to recreate the same thing. Just a quick analog.
>>42525 Heh, OK fair enough. This is fascinating stuff, Anon. Looking forward to watching your progress! Cheers, Ribose. :^)
>>42575 https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0328965 Sustainable memristors from shiitake mycelium for high-frequency bioelectronics >Neuromorphic computing, inspired by the structure of the brain, offers advantages in parallel processing, memory storage, and energy efficiency. However, current semiconductor-based neuromorphic chips require rare-earth materials and costly fabrication processes, whereas neural organoids need complex bioreactor maintenance. In this study, we explored shiitake (Lentinula edodes) fungi as a robust, sustainable alternative, exploiting its adaptive electrical signaling, which is akin to neuronal spiking. We demonstrate fungal computing via mycelial networks interfaced with electrodes, showing that fungal memristors can be grown, trained, and preserved through dehydration, retaining functionality at frequencies up to 5.85 kHz, with an accuracy of 90 ± 1%. Notably, shiitake has exhibited radiation resistance, suggesting its viability for aerospace applications. Our findings show that fungal computers can provide scalable, eco-friendly platforms for neuromorphic tasks, bridging bioelectronics and unconventional computing.
https://www.nasa.gov/blogs/spacestation/2025/09/26/crew-studies-space-orientation-dna-data-storage-as-dragon-reboosts-station/ >Afterward, Kim sequenced DNA samples in the Harmony module for a biotechnology study investigating using DNA as a way to store and encrypt digital data to reduce reliance on traditional and heavier storage methods in space. Cardman worked in the Kibo laboratory module servicing scientific samples stowed inside combustion research hardware.
>>42576 >>42605 Intredasting! >>42617 What's the idea, Anon?
>>42620 I'm going to test how mushrooms respond to different frequencies of sound.
>>42622 Do you hope to find a way to mediate something that way?
>>42623 No, I want to see if I can use make an analog of auditory tactile synesthesia for the mycelium micro electrode array.
>>42626 That.. is.. wild... Godspeed bro. You're swimming in deep waters rn. :^)
I'm going to link this ITT -- despite it being pure electronics -- primarily b/c Ribose's interests in Spiking Neurons. --- Using Spiking Neural Networks to autonomously control an RC truck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL_UZBd93sw
