1980's Nostalgia General CaesarDude 01/05/2020 (Sun) 21:20:39 No.274 [Reply] [Last]
Alright, I decided to expand the scope of this board a little more and include a containment thread for 80's nostalgia. I mainly created this board to serve as both a successor to the old /y2k/ board, which was my favorite board on 8chan, and also expand the scope to include 90's nostalgia too, but after checking on this board, I noticed someone mentioning 80's nostalgia and I decided I would do something about it. I personally don't care that much for 80's pop culture aside from the music and some of the old edgy anime, but 80's nostalgia did become a thing in the 2000's and I can see why others like the whole 80's style, so I'll allow it as long as it's mainly kept to this thread.

>>712 >anonfile.com I've actually never used it. Let's see if it works. https://anonfiles.com/D4u3qaJ5o0/01_SKY_CRUISIN_flac glad you like soulseek. it's really great. I also like to visit www.jpop80ss.blogspot.com since that Web site has the most comprehensive selection of jpop I have personally seen.
>>727 Link works nicely, thanks anon! I had to save the file from the audio preview as the download button wasn't working but it's all good. I'll make sure to check out that jpop blog.
>>728 yeah hope you find something you like! I don't have much money right now so I can't afford to buy many jpop tapes, CDs, or records. So downloading them works for me quite well. Sometimes if I can find someone selling domestically then it's not a bad price, but when I bought a tape from japan it was relatively expensive, maybe like 20 dollars when I can get tapes here for a dollar or something. But the tape I got was in great condition and it's got cool stuff inside, it has a folded sheet with some information, a mini-calendar for '85 that I don't think I'll ever use because I don't want to ruin its value, and a couple photographs of the artist, Akina Nakamori. Pretty nice little collector's package, I guess. Don't know if you'd want to, but if you ever do want to buy things from Japan, use yahoo auctions. I used a service, www.buyee.jp which is a middleman and will receive something in Japan and ship it to you wherever you are, it's nice.
>>744 I feel you. Pirating/downloading has always been my thing though, because my country rarely imports CDs and only very recently did it have music streaming services... That being said, I still cherish my collection of tapes and CDs, and occasionally go through their booklets and relive what I felt when I first bought them (often when traveling). I suggest you make use of that 1985 calendar, what's the point in "keeping" its value if you don't plan on reselling it? I hope you're not one of those discogs types haha
>>761 Yes I've been downloading my music for years now. I started with those youtube converter sites when I was a bit younger, then I got into torrents and rutracker, but soulseek has been my best source for a while now. My music library is over 200GB now, I've got a lot of stuff. Even if I have the money, buying music digitally feels strange. But I generally have no issues buying tapes, CDs, and records as long as they're not too expensive. Sorry to hear your country doesn't really import CDs. I live in the United States and where I am, I have (or had) easy access to used CDs and stuff like that at thrift stores or the library. I've bought tapes off local classifieds before and of course online. I haven't bought many records, but I have a ton of them that I found in a box on the curb, someone was getting rid of them. Maybe a hundred of them or more. >I suggest you make use of that 1985 calendar, what's the point in "keeping" its value if you don't plan on reselling it? I hope you're not one of those discogs types haha I don't know, it's so small that it's kind of pointless anyway. I have a full-sized calendar taped to my wall at my desk anyway, and I do use that, and when I go out I have a notebook. I also sometimes either take with me my Palm PDA, or a '90s Casio digital organizer. So a small little calendar the size of a cassette isn't too useful. Even if it were, I would feel like I'm defiling it. If I scribbled on it then it's like this thing has been sitting since '85 pristine in Japan and then some guy just writes his bullshit on it. Plus when I die whoever gets it should have it in good condition. I'm definitely not one of those types though, haha. I bring the tape with me and listen to it, but really the little calendar is on the back side of a photograph of the artist, and it seems more like an afterthought.

Infinity Cup Fellow Time Traveler 11/10/2019 (Sun) 03:07:58 No.179 [Reply]
Anons,

As that one anon that's been working on the Infinity Cup for all this time, I feel like the boards that were set to participate deserve a bit better than radio silence. For those that aren't caught up or need a quick rundown:
>The Infinity Cup is a virtual soccer(football[divegrass]) tournament, with its roots dating back to the earliest days of 8chan
>It takes place in Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), a virtual soccer franchise from Konami
>I took on the responsibility of organizing the 5th iteration of the Cup back at the beginning of this year
>Over months, I learned how to mod PES to put in each board's respective team and run simulated games between them
>Using pre-existing guides (many not in English) I also learned how to mod the game from an aesthetic and quality of life standpoint, including crowds, referees, stadiums, balls, and even rudimentary player models
>24 boards agreed to participate, and the Cup was scheduled to begin August 9th
>On August 4th/5th, we received word that 8chan was losing its host, the site went down relatively shortly after
>With no site and no functioning central hub, the Cup was postponed.
>I disappear for about a month
>I return in October
>We still don't have a site, but we do have a webring.
>You are here.
The whole point of this is to see if anyone still cares at this point. There was hype for the Cup. Yes, some boards cared much more than others but there 24 willing boards and we had the resources to run the Cup. I put in probably far more work on my own than any sane person should have, so I don't want this all to go to waste. That being said though, if we set a date, gather the required parties, and begin streaming the Cup and 6 people show up, I'd rather just not do it at all. I'm going around posting this on every participant board that's here on the webring and I'll try to get this up on 8kun somehow. In the meantime just post in here so I can get a sense of interest from you.

Can we have a thread for flash games? Fellow Time Traveler 01/11/2020 (Sat) 03:46:02 No.301 [Reply]
Flash was pretty cool and it's gonna die this year so let's have a thread about flash games and just stuff that's made in flash in general.
11 posts and 18 images omitted.
Well this one is ranging more into late 2000's territory (it was even released in >2007) but there was this flash browser virtual world called Whirled which was sorta like a mix of PalaceChat and Club Penguin. What made it unique was that most of it's content was made by the userbase, and most of it was available for free with coins that you could earn from playing games, earning trophies or just begging. You could make stuff from simple shit such as pngs into furniture or room backgrounds, to full fledged flash avatars with states and emotes, or even your own games through which other players could earn coins. Like most other virtual worlds, Whirled had it's own faggots as well. Trolls making virus-like screamers or earrape vid avatars, 13 year old gaia weebs with those lazy recolors of popular avatars such as Kawaiis, lazy static image/gif avatars (even "m or f" normalfags making static image avatars with pictures of themselves thinking it was some sort of fucking hookup site) To be honest, it was always pretty cringe, but the concept was still really great. If not for flash being "obsolete" these days i'd say it could be some sort of popular VRChat alternative for toasters and people with no mics There's actually a clone for it, but as you can see, most people have moved on since the shutdown of the original game. Hell, the death of flash player probably butchered the playerbase even more. https://www.whirled.club/

I know this is gonna sound weird, but you ever feel a sense of nostalgia for hentai you enjoyed from back in the day? The 90's and 2000's had some good titles, and I'll include a lot of the 80's titles in this as well since most of them didn't get released in the West until the 90's or early 2000's. IIRC, Legend of the Overfiend came out in 1987 in Japan but did not get a release in the West until 1993. I think the first three parts of the Urotsukidoji OVA was the first hentai release in America ever. Central Park Media took the different OVA installments of Urotsukidoji and edited them into four feature-length movies, the first of which got a limited theatrical release in the 90's. Of course, there were other classics like La Blue Girl, Ogenki Clinic, and Lyon Flare in the 90's and you also had Bible Black back in the early 2000's.

Message too long. Click here to view full text.

Does Hobibox Europe still sell and support the western version? If not you could try sending it to some abandonware site. Archive.org also accepts abandonware.
>>144
I know that at least part of their website is up, or it was a couple of months ago. But all of the links were dead, images were broken, and a cursory search stated that the company went under over a decade ago. Does archive care if the content is pornographic? And are there abandonware sites for eroge?
>>156
>Does archive care if the content is pornographic?
Their terms of service doesn't mention it from a cursory glance and PC-98 collections get to stay up, which are mostly filled with eroge. Archive will allow most things that aren't obviously still being commercialized and if the copyright holder objects they just remove it.

>And are there abandonware sites for eroge?
I don't know of any that focuses on eroge. Most of them are just abandonware in general, but they might have different rules concerning mature content.
>>143 >I've ripped the CD and can upload it to mega If you're still around, please do!

90's Bootleg Merch Fellow Time Traveler 09/12/2019 (Thu) 00:10:08 No.31 [Reply]
One thing I loved about the 90's was the overabundance of bootleg merchandise, T-Shirts in particular.

The myriad knock-off shirts with Bart Simpson were so common in the early 90's it even became a meme.

You also had a lot of other common targets of bootlegs such as Sonic, TMNT, Sailor Moon, and as always, the big name rock bands and rappers.

After copyright enforcement got more stringent, you did not see this type of stuff as often, not even at the usual venues like flea markets, gas stations, fairgrounds, and any town with a major tourist trap nearby.
I remember whole shops in Florida in the late 1980's being full of design your own T-shirt bootleg merch...

Wild West Fellow Time Traveler 10/31/2019 (Thu) 12:09:42 No.168 [Reply]
I want to go back. When browsing the Web felt like going on an adventure.

What substitutes for "Wild West" these days? All I can think of are Tor, Zeronet, and the vast array of imageboards. Discord can feel pretty wild too sometimes, that is if you can find the right servers.

Post what you know, please.

The local wireless community was like that in my city but then it died too. Decentralized stuff will probably be it increasingly, as touchscreen kids have grown up on nothing but Twitch and Youtube.
>>368 Other way for me, i tried watching and create stuff based on my tastes, which are biased towards the board's era subject, and made me lorn for those things again.
>>372 I know how you feel. Keep going at it and the feeling will wear off after a while, like a year or so... You can only indulge in nostalgia for so long before your brain gets bored and you lose the rose-colored glasses. Let your yearning for the past be a drive to recreate it somewhat, at least in the digital sense. Like writing geocities-styled websites and sharing existing ones, creating pixel art and 3D art, composing MIDI/MOD files, programming vidya...etc.
